Cadastral office
A branch of the regional cadastral office that keeps the land register for its district: it handles registrations and issues extracts.
Czech cadastral offices are established by Act No. 359/1992 Coll. There are 14 of them, one for each region and one for Prague, and they are managed by ČÚZK. A katastrální pracoviště (cadastral branch office) is an internal unit of a regional cadastral office that carries out its work in a defined district. The list of branches, their seats and districts is published by ČÚZK in the Collection of Laws (Section 5(2) of the Act).
What a branch office handles
- applications for registration (vklad), such as purchase contracts; the application goes to the cadastral office and branch for the district where the property lies,
- other entries, such as records (záznam) and notes, and changes reported by owners,
- extracts, transcripts and copies from the register; an extract of electronically kept data can be issued by any cadastral office in the country (Section 55 of the Cadastral Act),
- copies of documents from the collection of deeds, but only to a person who proves their identity (Section 52),
- entering refined plot boundaries on the basis of a survey plan and a joint declaration of the owners,
- setting up the change-alert service in person, while you wait.
How to find the right branch
Responsibility follows the location of the property, i.e. its cadastral area. If the properties in a contract fall under several branches of the same office, ČÚZK's instructions say to file a single joint application.
What to watch out for
Branch districts can change. ČÚZK closes some branches and moves their work to neighbouring ones; for example, the Bruntál branch closed on 30 September 2026 and its district moved to the Krnov branch, with a contact point remaining in Bruntál. With older documents or contacts, check the responsible branch on the ČÚZK website.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to go to the branch where the property is for an extract?
No. Any cadastral office can issue an extract, as can Czech POINT counters or the ČÚZK portal online.
Can I file a registration application electronically?
Yes. Besides filing in person or by post, you can use a Czech data box or e-mail with a recognised electronic signature. This only works if the underlying document itself exists in electronic form.
Want this information on your property's website?
We find, analyse and clearly present data about the place. On the website for clients and in the location check for the agent - depending on the nature of the information.
The explanation is general and informative, not legal advice. Binding are the land register, the zoning plan and other official sources.
