ČÚZK - Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre
The Czech central office that runs the land register, manages RÚIAN and publishes state maps, much of it free as open data.
ČÚZK (Český úřad zeměměřický a katastrální, the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre) is the central state authority for surveying and the land register, based in Prague and established by Act No. 359/1992 Coll. It is headed by a chairman appointed by the government. ČÚZK ensures the uniform administration of the land register, runs its central database, manages the RÚIAN register and publishes the official state maps (Section 3 of the Act).
How it is organised
- 14 cadastral offices, one for each region and one for Prague, which administer the land register (Section 5),
- cadastral branch offices as internal units of the cadastral offices, with districts published in the Collection of Laws,
- surveying and cadastral inspectorates, which supervise the cadastral offices and decide appeals against their decisions,
- the Land Survey Office (Zeměměřický úřad), which among other things manages the geodetic network, state maps and the central surveying and cadastre archive.
What you will typically use
- Nahlížení do katastru nemovitostí: free online viewer of parcels, buildings, units and proceedings, for information only,
- the ČÚZK portal: official land register extracts online, paid by card,
- the change-alert service, which notifies owners of new entries on their property,
- open data and map services, such as the cadastral map, orthophoto and RÚIAN data.
What it means
Spatial data listed on the ČÚZK Geoportal (except aerial survey images and archive material) are provided free of charge as open data under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Since 1 July 2023 this includes orthophoto, the ZABAGED base map data and the state map series. Data on owners, rights and recorded prices are not open data. They may only be used for purposes set by the Cadastral Act and redistributed only with ČÚZK's consent (Section 53). Recorded prices cannot be obtained through the online viewer (Section 52).
Frequently asked questions
Is ČÚZK the same as a cadastral office?
No. ČÚZK is the central office that manages the cadastral offices. Registrations, extracts and other matters for a specific property are handled by the cadastral offices and their branches.
Why do websites cite the source of land register data?
The CC BY 4.0 licence requires attribution. For data that are not open data, the redistribution limits of Section 53 of the Cadastral Act also apply.
